WHO'S WHO AT WATERHOUSE & DODD
Jamie Anderson
JAMIE ANDERSON joined Waterhouse & Dodd in 1998 from the contemporary art gallery, Long & Ryle. Apart from dealing with the day-to-day running of the gallery, including research and photography, Jamie is also responsible for the Contemporary Art program, which includes finding new artists, liasing with artists and planning our extensive programme of exhibitions and art fairs.
Jamie graduated from Glasgow University with a degree in History of Art and Modern History, specialising in Post-War American art. His particular expertise lies in 20th century art, and specifically in Modern British painting.
Jemimah Patterson
JEMIMAH PATTERSON joined Waterhouse & Dodd 2 years ago to work alongside Jamie Anderson in the running of the contemporary art programme. Jemimah’s experience lies in the contemporary art scene having come from managing the former Stephen Lacey Gallery. Her specialist interest in contemporary sculpture derives from curating at the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden.
Jemimah graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Fine art with Art History at St. Edmund Hall. She has spent some time working in Italy in conjunction with the British Council at the Venice Biennale and the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation.
Ray Waterhouse RAY WATERHOUSE has 34 years experience in the London art market. He was awarded a 1st class Degree in History of Art and History at University College, London, specialising in French painting of the period 1850-1920. He wrote his theses on Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.
Ray began art dealing 3 months after graduating and in 1981 became Managing Director of Galerie George in London, dealers in 19th and 20th century paintings. He left to form Waterhouse & Dodd in 1987.
In a small business many responsibilities are shared but Ray’s main role is in buying paintings. While in London he spends at least 2 hours a day evaluating possible purchases. His search for paintings involves much travel, working closely with Hélène de Saint Chamas, our Parisian buying agent.
Because of his involvement in buying, Ray is in constant contact with the clients for whom we act as art advisors through our subsidiary Fine Art Brokers. As most of these are in the States, he travels there at least 6 times a year.
He also takes the major responsibility for the financial aspects of the business and running our successful picture fund scheme on behalf of private investors.
Ray is married to a textile designer and they have two children aged 17 and 12.
Jonathan Dodd
JONATHAN DODD has 28 years experience in the London art market. He took a Master of Arts Degree in Law and History of Art at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, specialising in British and French 19th century paintings. He joined the leading London print dealers Baynton Williams after graduating, leaving in 1982 to work with Ray Waterhouse at Galerie George and to run the second gallery. Five years later they formed Waterhouse & Dodd.
While the running of the business is very much a partnership, Jonathan takes the major responsibility for the gallery in Cork Street, marketing and generally for the selling of paintings. This includes organising exhibitions at our gallery and our participation at various art fairs in London and the USA. He also writes and designs The Fine Art File, our monthly newsletter.
Jonathan visits the USA about four times a year to meet clients and discuss their requirements. He also contributes to the buying of course, and has close contacts in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Jonathan is married to the editor of an art magazine and they have a son aged 10, and two daughters aged 7 and 5.
